Something’s In The Air Development History
The long tale of how Something’s In The Air was developed can be found on my blog posts. Here are some links and highlights in chronological order:

3D Art Is Tougher Than It Looks
August 22, 2010 – First mention of a sequel in my blog. Beginning of the “set” building phase.
Ariane’s New Hood
September 25, 2010 – Building of the Speed-line Market and Drive-N-Dine, both of which replaced old pictures in Date Ariane version 7.0.
More New Renders
October 10, 2010 – Building of the Cafe da Silva restaurant, which replaced old pictures in Date Ariane version 7.0.
More New Sets
October 31, 2010 – Building of Lizzard’s Nightclub, which replaced old pictures in Date Ariane version 7.0.
Dating Sim 7.0
February 13, 2011 – The release of Date Ariane 7.0 mentioning the building of the new Lingerie store, Lake, and Scenic drive.
Dating Sim 7.1 Bridge to the Sequel
July 9, 2011 – I release the first of many Date Ariane updates so that they match with the unnamed sequel. I also do the first of what will eventually be many “recasts” of characters. The old Stephanie 3 strip club hostess gets replaced by a Victoria 4 character, as “Stacy” becomes more prominent.

Principal Photography Begins
July 23, 2011 – Two very complicated images are rendered. These two images will undergo at least half a dozen rerenders in the future, with 4 different Arianes and 3 different Bonnie the Bartenders.
Going to the Movies with Ariane
August 1, 2011 – One of the more fun but complicated parts of the project was making the fake movies in the game.
Ariane Gets A Makeover
August 18, 2011 – First attempt at trying to create a Victoria 4 version of Ariane, this attempt turned out rather awful, and the second try was just as bad.

More Info on the Sequel
September 1, 2011 – A overview of the whole plan without getting into details. Includes a picture with early drafts of the main characters besides Ariane.
A Final V4 Ariane and Poser 9 is out
September 20, 2011 – After the awful early attempts, I finally came up with a V4 Ariane that is “pretty”. This version would last over a year before an even newer version (the current version) of the character would be finalized.
Three Minor Characters
November 6, 2011 – Rebecca, Dave, and Stacy are introduced. The story that is referenced in the Rebecca part never came to be. The other skinny blonde I was referencing was Heidi, and her story got cut. More on that later.
The Sequel Has A Title
January 14, 2012 – The title of course is Something’s In The Air. First versions of the title screens are shown.
Two new SITA sets
January 22, 2012 – Heidi’s salon and the Dress Shop, both of which are used in the “supermodel” story.
Meet Rachel
February 26, 2012 – An introduction to Rachel Spahr who I didn’t mention is the real star of the story. At this point I was done with all the Rachel threads except the comic convention part which I would do after everything else was done. I still had a year of development to go.
Lessons Learned in Alpha Testing
March 24, 2012 – I released an alpha test to a few friends and told them to be brutally honest. The alpha test consisted only of the Ariane part of the game with only 5 of the eventual 10 endings in the game. The general consensus was that “Ariane” wasn’t very likable anymore. The Ariane introduction at the time was that she is angry that you did not call her. This was needed for plot reasons to introduce a conflict that has to be overcome, otherwise it would be too easy.
I ended up completely rewriting the introduction and making it friendlier for the “default” setting of the game (the version most people would see the first time they played), but kept the angry Ariane if you chose a first date scenario in which you slept with Ariane. Eventually a third version would be written in “Done it all!” mode which is more playful than the others. The new conflict was just that Ariane wants a formal evening and the player is reluctant.
Worse in the alpha test, Ariane’s anger would carry throughout the date. That was also a mistake, and now all conflicts are settled in the diner scene, which is where the real date begins anyways.
On the Madness of Crowds
April 21, 2012 – Tricks I learned trying to make crowd scenes like at the house party, the amusement park and the night club.
Random Outtakes From The Year of Making SITA
July 14, 2012 – One year into principal photography and almost two years since the first announcement, and another year later would pass before open release. Looking at the dates of these posts, I did not spend a full year working solidly on the game. I took long breaks.
Meet Paula
August 9, 2012 – First introduction to Dr. Paula Brannigan Phd, and she looks very different today. I was finally done with what would ultimately be story 4. Here it says story 5 as I was still planning on doing a Lydia Lopez story.
Cosplay in 3D
October 25, 2012 – For the Veronica story I had to make a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Convention including a bunch of people in costume. While making Veronica’s story I realized this also needs to be a Rachel story setting as well and wrote a Rachel version of events.

Fun With Subsurface Scattering
November 1, 2012 – Subsurface scattering is a realistic skin technique in 3D rendering that was new to Poser 9. After experimenting with it I knew it would be a game changer and ultimately had to re-render a big chunk of the pictures I had done. This would be the final version of Ariane for SITA that I would also use for Date Ariane 10th Anniversary as well. It also changed the Paula character, Bonnie, and the supermodel version of Rachel all of which had to be re-rendered.
Principal Photography Is Done
November 19, 2012 – I was officially finished with the 4 stories I had left. This post includes the original Bonnie who would later radically change in appearance. I still had to do the Sci-fi/Fantasy scenes in Rachel’s story and Wendy’s story would be after that, but I had a working version of the game. It would take another 6 months before it would be released.
What a Difference a Year Makes
January 1, 2013 – My new years post where I show before and after pics of all the characters that got radically changed, and this does not include Bonnie. Technically this should be “What a difference a year and a half makes”
Meet Wendy
February 12, 2013 – The last content before the closed beta was the Wendy story and the volleyball game. This was just a silly add on, sort of a DLC for the game. It is the only story set in the daytime.
A Storm Is Coming
March 30, 2013 – With a version of the game nearly ready, I started focusing on marketing. I created this poster and wanted to create a trailer as well. I did not get around to doing a trailer until the Date Ariane Renpy version one. It was while I was doing this poster, I started a closed beta of the game so far.
What’s New With Ariane
April 15, 2013 – I do not remember how far into the game development that I decided to to change Ariane’s house. I know the decision to change Ariane was made 6 months before this post. While I was busy making a ton of changes to the game after closed beta feedback, I decided to post about the new Ariane and her new house since I neglected to do that.
And Then A New Bonnie
April 21, 2013 – The month of April 2013 was a very busy one for the game development. Feedback on the game from closed beta indicates that the game wasn’t “sexy” enough, and I reluctantly had to agree. Two of my more brilliant ideas came from this feedback. 1. Giving Rachel a fetish for sex during role play, and 2. Change the Bonnie story from not really having an ending to having several. This basically added 3 new sex scenes to the game.
GAME ON!! Something’s In The Air Is Now Out
May 9, 2013 – This was the open beta test. The open beta got 42,000 downloads the 3 months it was up.
Director’s Commentary 1: Another Date With Ariane
May 14, 2013 – Even though it was still in beta, I wanted to talk about the game and did it in a series of directors commentaries. This was the first of 4.
SITA: Top 10 Secrets And Stuff You Probably Missed
May 24, 2013 – More commentary on the game now that it is finally released. I thought of another 3 items I could have added after this post, but saved them for the commentaries.
Lessons Learned From Beta Testing
June 1, 2013 – I mostly took the month of June off and did not get around to finishing the final version until late July. This posts was about observations I made while reading about people’s experience playing the beta version.
Director’s Commentary 2: A Man About Town
August 18, 2013 – Wrote this while finishing up the version 1.0 of SITA. Second of 4 commentaries.

Something’s In The Air 1.0
August 31, 2013 – First official non beta version is released with a fair amount of new content.
Director’s Commentary 3: Magic, Malice, and Mayhem
April 2, 2014 – Wrote this while taking a break from Date Ariane 10th Anniversary Edition. Notice the 7 month gap between SITA posts here.
Director’s Commentary 4: The Tower of Ion
July 14, 2014 – After finding out that SITA passed the 100,000 download mark, decided to do the last commentary.
Something’s In The Air Now Works In Android
September 20, 2015 – I had to complete Date Ariane in Renpy before I could update SITA to work on Android. You need to use a workaround to get it to work on Android
