Remaking Ariane in Paradise in DS

Lately I’ve been working on Dating in a World on Fire, and I’m still working on it, but I realized one of the big time sinks in making it is I don’t know Daz Studio as well as I should.
I also noticed while getting Ariane in Paradise ready for Steam, that the game isn’t looking all that great. By it’s theme Ariane in Paradise is supposed to be the most visually stunning of my 4 completed games, and I think right now, it’s in last place. It needs some love and I need to learn Daz Studio.
Solution: Remake Ariane in Paradise in Daz Studio.

The Remastered Poser Ariane, Rachel, Tassiana and player characters are all made with 20 year old Victoria 4.2 models. I decided to upgrade to Genesis 8.1 models as they have been around a while and there is a lot of support for them. There is an even newer model Genesis 9 I could use, but it’s not a marked improvement over 8.1 and it is over reliant on “dforce” (a dynamic clothing standard) that takes images a while to render so for now 8.1 is the way to go.
Making new versions of Ariane and Rachel that look like the old versions has been a disaster every time I tried it, so I can only get close enough to match the details. The best method in practice is find a model that is close and adjust it to fix the key differences.
In Ariane’s case I found MSO Lacey who has all the right facial features except the classic Ariane eyebrows. That’s where Sharon comes in. Not only does Sharon have the right eyebrows, she almost looks like Rachel.

Of course I need male and female player characters, too. Here’s the male, along with 8.1 Rachel and Ariane. Recent tests have proven that most of the old sets I used for Ariane in Paradise work in Daz Studio. In fact some were designed for Daz Studio and ported to Poser.

The only set that does not properly load is the hotel used in the opening scene and others. You may also wonder why I gave updated Ariane a pony tail instead of the classic hairstyle. It’s because this one has a “wet” mode as seen here. Daz handles wetness way better, and there’s a lot of “wet”scenes in Ariane in Paradise.

I’m actually learning a ton about Daz Studio that I didn’t know before. I’m also doing the graphics in 1440p for the first time increasing the quality that way too. Forcing myself to make duplicate scenes is forcing me to learn techniques in Daz Studio I didn’t know before. For some reason the makers of the software keep all the most powerful features buried in sub-menus. I’m getting it though, watching tutorials online when I need to learn something new.
I’m sure I’ll get asked if there is any plans to do the other games this way, and for now it’s NO. The other games have an aesthetic based on “classic” looks with the latest graphics, and I got a lot of work to do with this game and Dating In A World on Fire.
Another question is will this be a “remastered” version with a new purchase required? The answer is also no. If you want to play “Day 1” with the new graphics, you can go to my Patreon page where I’ll show new graphics as they are being made, and updates as they are updated.
But once Ariane in Paradise 2.0 is completed it will be a free update for all current owners, (though I am planning a price increase so get the cheap version now.)
I’m having fun making this. and after three weeks of working on it I’m done with “Day 1”. Hopefully day 2 and 3 will be done as fast, and I’ll be done by the end of summer, give or take a month.

Obviously, it’s your game, and you can do with it as you like, but I gotta say, I don’t like any of the new models, at least not in the images you shared. I think the all have weird chins, somehow. Especially Ariane looks very different from her previous iterations.
This is always an issue every time I change models, which is why I change them so rarely. The old models are out dated and not supported by anyone anymore, so I needed to upgrade.
I know from experience, attempting to make exact duplicates always ends in disaster, so my goal instead is get the “details” right. and not worry about the less important stuff. I did side by sides on Patreon, will likely show them here too next week.
The most common note is that Ariane looks “younger”, but this may be an illusion due to the greater detail of the new models.
Hi Ariane,
Thanks for the reply! I do know this is not the first time that you’re changing the models – I’ve been going on dates with Ariane since the very first game came out. This does feel like the most drastic change though, on all the models, but especially on Ariane. I think Rachel looks mostly like I remember her, but Ariane definitely looks quite different, to me. Yes, much younger, less like previous iterations of her and less attractive, I would say. And yeah, I believe that’s at least in part because her lower jaw is now much squarer than it used to be.
