With the way things are going, one day in the future kids are not going to know what dodge ball or swings even are.

Text taken from Discovery Channel hostage taker James J Lee’s crazy manifesto. Bad spelling and grammar left in for posterity.

Life-Altering Urinal Design Concept of the Day: Designer Yeongwoo Kim’s award-winning “Eco Urinal” imagines a world in which urinals and hand sinks coexist in harmony.
According to Yanko, the main impetus for this hybrid is water conservation, but I’d like to think no small due is owed to the designer’s frustration with people not washing up after they pee.
Let’s see you excuse your way out of washing your hands now, employees!
[yanko.]
This actually makes pretty good sense!

That’s great that they came up with a plush Jonesy figure, but I’m certain that he wasn’t black…

Jonesy was a ginger Tom….
I think someone’s just put their cat inside an action figure box - it’s way too realistic! Had me for a second though ;)
Edit:
Ok, So last night I was to lazy to actually write a first post, and figured would edit one in later.
First off, welcome everyone to SEPTEMBER. The original Seventh Month. It was the seventh month on the roman calendar until around 150 BC. At that time March Moved from being the first month to the third, moving the Unoriginal Named "Seventh Month, Eight Month, Ninth Month, Tenth Month" Two places to the right.
Now the fact that this change occurred more than 2,000 users ago Humanity in its usual manner refuses to change something as simple as a name. Go Humanity!
In the Southern Hemisphere the weather is quite like what us Northern Hemispherers call "March." Hope you enjoyed your Winter.
In other news an inordinate amount of Radio Time this month will be dedicated to a song by Green Day, "Wake me up when September Ends."
The song has come to take in many different interpretations, and the intended one is quite far down the list.
Originally it was about one of the singers father who had cancer and died twenty years ago.
Then there was the time period where Green Day spoke out against Iraqi Freedom, and the Music Video itself was a criticism on it.
Hurricane Katrina has also come onto the scene, it was even played at the first game in the New Orleans Stadium following the tragedy.
And that is all for now,
As most know here, I'm an avid Dungeons and Dragons player. I also have massive simulationist leanings where the better detailed a campaign world is, for me at least, the better.
So I noticed that most constructed campaign worlds (Eberron being my favorite) don't have any economic rules other that the basic mundane item prices, magic item prices, and the expected amount of treasure needed per level to support the adventurous lifestyle.
And that was it. No rules for what happens when the adventurers find a fabulous amount of gold coins and proceed to wreak havoc on the local town's economy. No supply and demand based price fluctuations. No nothing like that.
To be sure, there are 3rd party products that take a stab at it but I found all of them to be lacking any sense of reality (yes I know it's just a fantasy game!) or to be so unwieldy and cumbersome as to be useless.
Anyways,... I started to look at economics via google and instantly found many articles on Wikipedia (O font of all knowledge).
Rooting around I found several things of interest that I previously posted about recently. anarcho-capitalism, minarchism, geo-libertarianism......the list wasn't too long.
One neat little book that I read in a couple of days is Economics in One Lesson. (warning: 8meg pdf)
So anyways I kept seeing this guy Henry George's name keep popping up.
I had NEVER heard of this guy before a couple of weeks ago, but apparently he was a big deal in his day.
Soooo....now I've started reading his Progress and Poverty .
I just wanted to put out feelers and see if anybody here has heard of this guy and what yall thought.
Have I entered a brave new world where I will learn the answer to everything?
Am I going over old hat stuff that I should have paid attention to in college instead of playing pool and wenching?
Maybe I'm going off the deep end of the pool without any floaties....

To explain what is at stake, here are some words from the President:
Quote
In the most critical periods of our nation's history, there have always been those fringes of our society who have sought to escape their own responsibility by finding a simple solution, an appealing slogan, or a convenient scapegoat.
Now we are face to face once again with a period of heightened peril. The risks are great, the burdens heavy, the problems incapable of swift or lasting solution.
And under the strains and frustrations imposed by constant tension and harassment, the discordant voices of extremism are heard once again in the land.
Men who are unwilling to face up to the danger from without are convinced that the real danger comes from within. They look suspiciously at their neighbors and their leaders. They call for a 'man on horseback' because they do not trust the people. They find treason in our finest churches, in our highest court, and even in the treatment of our water. They equate the Democratic Party with the welfare state, the welfare state with socialism, and socialism with communism. They object quite rightly to politics' intruding on the military -- but they are anxious for the military to engage in politics.
But you and I and most Americans take a different view of our peril. We know that it comes from without, not within. It must be met by quiet preparedness, not provocative speeches.
Let our patriotism be reflected in the creation of confidence rather than crusades of suspicion. Let us prove we think our country great by striving to make it greater. And, above all, let us remember that, however serious the outlook, the one great irreversible trend in world history is on the side of liberty -- and so, for all time to come, are we."
Oh by the way, that was President Kennedy in 1961 -- Strange how little things change.

Previously, scientists had identified a huge impact crater in the Gulf of Mexico as the event that spelled doom for the dinosaurs.
Now evidence for a second impact in Ukraine has been uncovered.
This raises the possibility that the Earth may have been bombarded by a whole shower of meteorites.

I'm not into "chick lit" and probably would pass on high fantasy (though I did love the Harry Potter series) unless it's really something special. I also don't like horror or crime thrillers, and I'm definitely not interested in anything about vampires!
Things I like: absurdism, surrealism, sci-fi (really, speculative fiction in general, but not too dry,) humor, twisty plots, sarcasm, steam punk, tech, stuff that makes you think, anti-heroes, learning through fiction. Books I like: Most Neal Stephenson stuff I've read (Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, Anathem,) early Chuck Palahniuk books, Catcher in the Rye and other classics in the same vein, Hitchhiker's Guide series, Zadie Smith novels, well now I'm having a hard time remembering other books (4 hours of sleep will do that to you.)
Any and all suggestions appreciated!

Malicious Viewers and Our Third-Party Viewer Policy
Dear Second Life Resident,
Late last week, we discovered a denial-of-service attack that was being served through the widely distributed Emerald third-party viewer. This is in direct violation of our third-party viewer policy (part 2, section d, paragraph iii).
We have removed Emerald from the list of third-party viewers, and are now in touch with the Emerald team to discuss what can happen next. We did this to do our best to protect the safety and security of Second Life users. We will not tolerate a viewer that includes malicious code, nor will we tolerate development teams with a history of violating users' trust or disrupting their lives.
We take privacy, safety, and security very seriously, and we will act to the best of our abilities to protect it. We have not yet disabled logins via the Emerald viewer, but will do so if we feel the software and the team behind it is not able to meet the standards we've set. While Emerald is currently the focus of our attention because of what happened recently, all third-party viewers are held to the same standard, and must comply with the third-party viewer policy. Read more >>
If you have been using the Emerald viewer, for now we would encourage you to consider either one of the Linden Lab viewers, or an alternative third-party viewer.
